Burnt wood floor

Burnt Wood or charred wood or carbonised wood is  a technique that adds contrasty texture to wood. Traditionally it was used in Japan and it is called “Yakisugi”. Wood, specially cedar and pine was burnt to enhance the wood’s resistance to fire and insects. It is used for wooden flooring but also in exterior wood panels.
